HYPNO BIRTHING

HYPNO BIRTHING

More Peace, Less Pain

A CALM MIND  MATTERS

Women who have given birth with a supportive practitioner and partner/spouse have better health and emotional outcomes when regarding pregnancies. The same can be said for hypnobirthing. A woman in labour has significantly less pain when their partner plays an active role in encouraging self-hypnosis during labour. I can only support and confirm this.

Even compared to typical breathing coaching, women,  trained in hypnobirthing have better outcomes even the newborns are calmer.

There are several studies that found using hypnobirthing during pregnancy and labour:

Reality

Learning from a hypnobirthing practitioner can help ease fears over having a natural birth, especially in first times moms. Often women noted how negative examples from TV (especially reality shows) made them scared to give birth. Apparently, screaming women and panicked healthcare providers aren’t very comforting or reassuring. As well are the horror stories many women want to share with the expecting mother.

To this day, it is mindboggling to me how some women have no consideration or compassion toward the expecting mother. All they want is to express how they felt and what they felt when they gave birth. Yet, every experience is individual and unique for every single woman. And the beauty is we have a big influence on how it goes.

Once women went through the class, their fears were alleviated. Hypnobirthing techniques can give women the emotional and physical encouragement they need to push through.

Hypnobirth During Pregnancy

These techniques not only work during labour and delivery. Women who went to hypnobirthing classes or learned it in private sessions use the skills also in other situations. They usually have less anxiety at the dentist or while trying to breastfeed. Even in complicated situations, there is less tendency to panic. In other words, less drama.

Does It Work?

Nothing in life is guaranteed.  Although hypnobirthing has a long track record of improving birth outcomes, labour might not be completely pain-free. However, hypnobirthing will help to reduce pain and complications. Plus, there is always the possibility to shift if issues arise. Please remember that unforeseen circumstances (position of baby etc.) are not being controlled by hypnobirthing, and sometimes measures must be put in place. Even if a situation occurs, the hypnobirthing training will greatly affect a smoother outcome. As mentioned before, even in complicated situations there is less tendency to panic.

How It Works

Hypnobirth is a holistic approach focusing on multiple factors for a calm, confident delivery. Women are taught how their bodies work during labour, positive thinking skills, and controlled breathing.

Controlled Breathing

Breathing properly helps the body go into a parasympathetic state to relax the whole body (out of fight or flight mode). There are a variety of techniques that can help at different stages of labour and during different situations while pregnant.

Hypnobirth Mindset

Mind over Matter is the most important part of hypnobirthing. Since the brain controls what happens in the rest of the body, power over the mind helps give us control over the body. It doesn’t work well if we’re panicking and thinking about pain, fear, and everything else that could go wrong.

The techniques help women to shift to positive thinking and positive language. So the thought “these contractions are horrible” can turn into “I’m feeling a surge of manageable pressure.” Positive thinking helps a lot to eliminate fear-based thinking that makes the body go into pain mode.

Positive Affirmations

Just like avoiding fear-based terms and thoughts, it trains to use positive affirmations. Repeating positive phrases gets the body and mind into a good place to prepare for a better birth.

It’s important to repeat those positive affirmations consistently throughout pregnancy. This practice trains the brain for empowered labour and an amazing experience.

Listening to affirmations recorded from our Hypno-sessions is an easy and effective way to get into the "groove"

This is what we focus on: relaxation, visualization, meditation, attention to nutrition and positive body toning.

Visualize

A very powerful mental technique being used by the practitioner is visualization. Some women picture a mental image as the baby goes down the birth canal. There are also more detailed visualizations to work through during the classes.

The procedure

The best way is to take a class, which can be one-on-one, couple sessions or in a group.  The more you dive into it, the more there is to learn. It is important to have a qualified instructor leading your way and show you the ins and outs. Even if you’re a seasoned mama and this isn’t your first time at the arena.

In my classes I encourage women to start classes in the second trimester. A good time would be week 20/21. The earlier you start, the more you train your brain to get used to the methods and using the techniques. Eventually it becomes like second nature and you will not even think about it.

During the learning sessions we offer information, meditation, visualization, breathing exercises, light massage. Each session also has a hypnosis session which is recorded for the mother to be to use. The hypnosis sessions include relaxation, pain management, pre-birth and one pre-recorded session for labor. If needed and wished, a session during labor can be arranged if available.

Exitement

Did you know with being pregnant your whole world will change?

sharing your space with another human being

Adjusting

The first trimester

The fetus is most vulnerable during the first 12 weeks. All of the major organs and body systems are forming and can be damaged if the fetus is exposed to drugs, infectious agents, radiation, certain medications, tobacco and toxic substances. You may begin feeling signs of pregnancy like nausea and tender breasts, loss of appetite, vomiting, and fatigue so strong it sentences you to the couch for days. Challenging, no doubt. Hormone changes play a big role in making you feel tired, especially the hormone progesterone.Your heart pumps faster and stronger. Extreme changes in mood.

Your body is about to undergo some major changes as it prepares to grow a new life.

Birth doesn't have to be stressful

Being born can be the biggest trauma there is for a child

Although we might not remember birth, we experience quite a bit of trauma.

With the right preparation everybody can be relaxed

Including the newborn

Hypnobirthing will make this a wonderful experience for mother and child.

For some women, pregnancy is not all a bed of roses. Some might have a lot of worries for the baby, fear of the labour and delivery, and some even get very depressed. Watch below the video of a mother who had all of it. This is the reason why Hypnobirthing starts at an early stage to prepare for a relaxed pregnancy. Normally we start at week 20/21, but if you feel the need to start earlier because of fears or any other reasons, please contact us. You can start at any time.
